Northeastern University was founded in April 1923 and is located in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It is a university with a glorious tradition of patriotism. After the "September 18th" Incident in 1931, he was forced to move to Peking, Xi'an, Sichuan and other places. During this period, teachers and students actively participated in the patriotic anti-Japanese movement and were the vanguard and main force of the "December 9th" movement. In 1960, it was listed as one of the 64 key universities in China. It was one of the first universities approved by the State Council to award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. On April 22, 1993, Northeastern University reopened and Zhang Xueliang became the honorary president. In September 1998, Northeastern University was transferred from a university affiliated to the Ministry of Metallurgy to a university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The school is one of the first batch of key construction universities in the country’s “211 Project” and “985 Project”.

The school has two campuses: one is the Shenyang campus, located at No. 11, Lane 3, Wenhua Road, Shenyang City. It is adjacent to the Hun River in the south and Nanhu Lake in the north; one is the Qinhuangdao campus, located at No. 143 Taishan Road, Qinhuangdao Development Zone. It relies on Yanshan Mountain in the north and Bohai Sea in the south.
