Renmin University of China is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university focusing on humanities and social sciences, directly under the Ministry of Education. Now it has formed an all-round and multi-level education structure. It is a key university under the national “985 Project”, “211 Project” and “2011 Plan”. In 2013, it was rated as one of the only three "top universities" in China, together with Peking University and Tsinghua University. The school is one of the first universities in China to establish a graduate school. On October 3, 1950, Renmin University of China, which was formed based on the merger of North China University, became the first new formal university founded by New China. In 1954, Renmin University was identified as one of the first six key universities in the country.
