Anuradhapura is the oldest city in Sri Lanka, with a history of more than 2,500 years. It became the capital of Sri Lanka in 380 BC and was the seat of Sri Lanka's royal power for the next thousand years. The ruins of the ancient imperial city were discovered in the 19th century. Now the old city has been turned into an archaeological site. Surrounded by famous pagodas and Buddha statues, it is a holy place for Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

The Big Bodhi Tree in Anuradhapura is the most sacred object after the Buddha's Tooth and is also the most famous attraction in the ancient city. The important attractions in the ancient city are concentrated around the ruins of the royal palace and the Palatine Palace. They are relatively concentrated and walking is the most comfortable way.

September-October. This is the dry season and is suitable for travel.

How to get there:

Departing from China, there are three direct flights per week between Beijing and Colombo. SriLankan Airlines has regular flights to the capital Colombo from Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. There are radial railways from Colombo to other cities in Sri Lanka.
