Beijing Jingshan Park was a royal garden in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is located at the highest point on the central axis of Beijing. It is especially praised for its panoramic view of the Forbidden City. It is also lamented because it is the place where Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty hanged himself. Today, Jingshan is a leisure place for Beijing citizens to sing and dance. Whether on weekdays or holidays, you can see many folk choirs singing revolutionary songs and folk songs here. Jingshan, also known as Meishan, Zhenshan, and Longevity Mountain, is located at No. 44, Jingshan West Street. The garden was first built in Jin Dynasty. It was built from the mounds excavated from the Tongzi River and nearby canals for the construction of the imperial palace, covering an area of 23 hectares. The whole garden faces south and is surrounded by red walls and yellow tiles. It has built a ginkgo garden, a begonia garden, a peony garden, a peach orchard, an apple orchard, a vineyard and a persimmon forest. The flower lawn in the park covers an area of 1,100 square meters and has nearly 10,000 trees. Jingshan Park has three gates: east, west and south. Most tourists enter from the south gate (opposite the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City).
The park is not large and there are many signs for attractions. It usually takes 15-20 minutes to go from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain.
Looking around at Wanchun Pavilion, you can see the panoramic view of the Forbidden City to the south; to the north, you can see the Bell and Drum Towers on the central axis; to the west, you can see the White Tower of Beihai, and to the southeast, you can see Zhongnanhai. There is also a "Beijing City Center" mark in front of the Wanshou Pavilion, proving that this is the center of the capital.
