Introduction to Jakar Dzong: Jakar Dzong is the administrative center of Bumthang. It has white walls and characteristic roofs and is famous for its honey, cheese, apples and apricots. Jakhar Dzong is located high in the Choekhor Valley, overlooking the entire valley. Jakkar Dzong was built by Drukpa Lama in the 16th century. Legend has it that when the lamas were discussing the location and building of the dzong in Bumthang, a big white bird suddenly flew into the sky and landed on the mouth of a mountain, so they decided to build the dzong where the white bird stopped. Therefore, Jakkar Dzong is also known as the City of Birds. Jakhar Dzong is surrounded by a mile-long wall and contains a 150-foot-tall tower.
