Nanjing Chaotian Palace is located on the north bank of Qinhuai River and the bank of ancient Yundu. This place was called Yeshan in ancient times. Emperors of all dynasties built temples and palaces here. The history of development dates back more than 2,000 years. During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1384), Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, named it "Chaotian Palace" with the meaning of "worshiping the heaven". It was used as a place for royal nobles to burn incense and pray for blessings. It was also a place for civil and military officials to practice the etiquette of worshiping the emperor before the three major festivals of Spring Festival, Winter Solstice and Emperor's birthday. In the late Qing Dynasty, it was changed to Jiangning Prefecture School And the Confucian Temple, during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the "Yecheng Xizhi" in "Forty-eight Scenic Spots of Jinling" refers to the Chaotian Palace. The existing buildings of Chaotian Palace were rebuilt in the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1866) and are divided into three parts: east, middle and west.
