Hengyang Shigu Academy is the birthplace of Huxiang culture and the first scenic spot in Hunan, with a history of thousands of years. As one of the four major academies in the Song Dynasty in China, Shigu Academy was the earliest one founded. It has been a favorite place for literati since ancient times. Historical celebrities such as Su Shi, Zhou Dunyi, Zhu Xi, and Cai Runan once taught here. Li Daoyuan, Zeng Guofan, Peng Yulin and others came here to give lectures and apprentices, compose poems and notes, carve steles on walls, or explore secluded places. It is a cultural tourist attraction that integrates lectures, stone exploration, sightseeing and leisure.

Shigu Academy is located in Shigu Park next to Qingcao Bridge in Shigu District, covering an area of ​​4,000 square meters.
