Minsk, the capital of Belarus, is an ancient city with a history of more than 900 years. In the early 14th century, Minsk was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and in 1793 it was incorporated into Russia and became the center of Minsk Province. On January 1, 1919, the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic was established, with Minsk as the capital of the republic. During the Second World War, Minsk fell on June 28, 1941, and the German fascists killed more than 400,000 people in Minsk and nearby areas. Minsk was awarded the Order of Lenin twice during the Soviet period and was awarded the title of "Hero City" in 1974.Minsk is the political, economic and cultural center of Belarus.
